What does “pasture-raised” mean at Blue Sky Ag?

At Blue Sky Ag, “pasture-raised” means our cattle spend their lives grazing open pastures with plenty of space to roam. We’re committed to raising animals naturally, using responsible grazing practices that support both animal well-being and the health of our land.

We’re currently building a 100% grass-finished beef program where all animals are born, raised, and finished on grass. In the meantime, we offer both grass-finished and grain-finished beef. Regardless of finishing style, all of our animals are pasture-raised.

Our grain-finished cattle remain on pasture their entire lives—they simply receive a daily ration of grain during the finishing phase to enhance marbling and flavor. These animals come from our own herd, whose genetics are well suited to grain finishing.

For our grass-finished beef, we source steers from farms with animals genetically better suited to finishing on grass alone. While these cattle are pasture-raised, some may have had access to grain earlier in life before arriving at our farm. Because of this, we use the term “pasture-raised” rather than “100% grass-fed.”

Transparency and quality are at the heart of what we do. As we grow, we’re working toward a fully grass-fed, pasture-raised program that reflects our long-term vision.

Is your beef 100% grass-fed?

We are currently building a fully grass-fed program. Right now, we offer both grass-finished and grain-finished beef. Our grass-finished cattle are sourced from farms with genetics suited for grass finishing, but because they may have had access to grain before arriving, we use the term "pasture-raised" instead of "100% grass-fed."

What is regenerative farming?

Regenerative farming focuses on building soil health, improving pasture quality, and enhancing biodiversity. We use practices like rotational grazing and cover cropping to keep our land, animals, and food system healthier.

Where does your beef come from?

All of our cattle are raised using ethical, sustainable practices right here on our family farm. As we transition to a fully grass-fed program, we source yearling steers for our current grass-finishing program from other farms. These steers are then raised on pasture here until they are finished.

Do you use antibiotics or hormones?

We never use added hormones, and antibiotics are only used if an animal is sick and needs treatment. Any animal requiring antibiotics is removed from our beef program.

How can I buy your beef?

We currently offer local pickup and delivery to select areas, with our first round of beef available in early May. Join our newsletter to stay updated on availability and ordering details!
